Pitter Patter

I woke up this morning to the sound of the wind and rain hitting against the trailer walls and roof. Both are made of metal, and when the rain hits them your going to wake up. It makes it sound much worst than it really is. Even though he has been gone 6 years now My first thoughts when I woke up were of my dad. As I was growing up I can always remember him talking about how much he loved the sound of rain on a tin roof. I suppose it made him think of his own youth growing up in rural Georgia. My grandparents were share croppers and I think now what a hard life they must have lead. They moved thirteen times while raising two daughters and a son. I'm sure most of those old houses they lived in had tin for the roof. Cracks in the floor boards and fireplaces to keep warm. While I don't have cracks in the floor, or sadly a fireplace (since I would love to have one). I do have a metal roof. I think it is a bit stronger than tin, but metal neither the less. These thoughts took me to my porch where I sat for several minutes with my cat Bella, just listening, thinking about my life and how blessed I really am. I have a place to live, I have food, I have a man I am deeply in love with, I have two children and three beautiful grandchildren. Life is good.  With all of today's modern conveniences I think most of us take simply things like a warm home for granted. If we want heat we simply hit a switch. Air, just push the button, pick up the phone and talk to a friend. Or turn on the computer and find out what is going on around the world.  While I would be lying if I didn't say I enjoy this life, I do long sometimes to live in a different time. One where you grow your own crops, raise your own chickens and sit and listen to the rain on the roof. Instead I hurry, hurry hurry.  Thank you daddy for coming into my thoughts today so I could slow down.

I am so glad to see you are back Patty! I missed seeing you on here :) Thanks for the memories. My mom loved tin roofs and the sound of rain on them. I lost her on New Year's Eve 2009 to Alzheimers and Parkensons. The memories your post brought back were a wonderful thing for me to read. I am so glad things are working out for you. I know it got pretty bad there for a while, but I am so glad you are back :)

Yeahhhh I can comment! lol Glad you were able to fix it:-) Oh I love the sound rain on a tin roof makes and it brings back memories for me as well. Growing up we had a small summer cabin that we'd go spend weekends at and it had a tin roof. I loved falling asleep to the sound of the rain hitting it:-)

I'm so very glad that you're happy with your life and that you're with the one you love. You deserve to be happy:-)

Hope you're enjoying your vacation so far! xoxo

So true -- and I think that sound of rain on the roof could very well be 'the universal comfort'.

God can make us stop and remember to be thankful with the most simple things - like rain on a metal roof. Sometimes, we forget to slow down so we are gently reminded...

I love rain on a tin roof!

What a great post Patty, I believe you brought thoughts of the past to each and everyone of us. Yes, I am with you....I wish the hustle and bustle of these years were just a bit more relaxing and loving among friends and families. Things are hard for all of us today I am sure however, in times past they were hard also but there were people who truly cared about their neighbors and friends. How I long to have seen more of that in todays world. I keep God in my heart and with me and I pray that some how this world will pick up a little more of that. Congratulations on your home.
